Fairfax, VA (Dec 11, 2014) – It was a cold Sunday in Washington, DC, on December 7, 2014. But the weather didn’t deter a group of British School students and their families from participating in a benefit 5K run organized by Piers Kirk, a senior at the school.
Two years ago, Piers heard a presentation about the challenges faced by wounded warriors and how Cause was working to bring comfort, relaxation, and programs to service members in treatment at Walter Reed National Military Medical Center in Bethesda, MD. He decided to organize a 5K fun-run for members of the school community. He worked with school officials to do the planning, advertising and the logistical support for the event. We are pleased to report that Piers raised more than $600 to support Cause programs!
Piers has also volunteered to help with Cause Game Carts and other special events at Walter Reed. He joins a growing number of young people interested in volunteering with Cause.
“We are fortunate to have young people express and interest in becoming personally involved with helping service members, veterans and their families,” said Sarah Marshall, Cause Program Director and Volunteer Coordinator. “It is a large part of our mission to demonstrate that America appreciates the sacrifices our service members make each and every day. Youth Volunteers like Piers are valued members of the Cause Team!”
