Fred and Doris Bee
Fred and Doris Bee are the longest serving volunteers at the Cause Digital Entertainment Library (C-DEL) at Ft. Hood, TX. They both came aboard in 2009 when the C-DEL initially launched.
This past summer, Cause HQ visited the Ft. Hood C-DEL and had the joy of spending the afternoon with the Bees. We quickly noticed that Fred and Doris’ warm smiles make the couple very popular with the wounded warrior population. We often receive feedback that the wounded warriors would not know how to spend the weekends if they were not able to check out DVDs and video games from wonderful volunteers like Fred and Doris. Aside from providing a friendly face, Fred, and Doris help process new inventory. They are very conscientious and great stewards of the donations and funding Cause receives from its donors.
When asked why they volunteer, they simply say, “to give back.” However, I imagine the time spent in the C-DEL gives Fred, who is retired from the Army, a chance to use his gift of gab. Fred is especially fond of bragging about his grandson who is serving in the United States Air Force. He is also a great cook and eagerly shares his favorite recipes with others.
